neck/body fit

i got a new neck for my strat - but it doesn't fit into the neck pocket the way the old one did. in the sense that the fit is looser.

1. seems to be tiny space on the sides between neck pocket and heel of the neck.

2. heel seems slightly taller - in the sense that there is a gap between the protruding part of the fretboard and the body.

i have not bolted on the neck yet - will take it to my tech today evening to get that done.

maybe when the neck is bolted on, the second point might not be an issue.

but for the first i am concerned that the neck might not be centered properly in the pocket and thus align right with the body - should i put something (not sure what) on the sides so that the fit is right?

I had the opposite. before I could slide a pick down either side of my neck & body, and when I got my W replacement, it was snug as a bug.

Your tech should be able to be more precise on if the fit is off, and are you sliding the neck in from the top, or pressing down on it?
