Well Friday I recieved two boxes Warmoth!  A fantastic looking and feeling Flamed Maple and Rosewood Tele Neck with the Warmoth radius.

The body and almost all the hardware was in the second box.  The body looks great.  It a Quilted Maple Top on a Maple back with only clear coating.  The quilt top looks awesome.  MOre of you guys should try no color to show off the woodgrain.  It has white bindings tp and bottom.

I spent all night Friday putting her together.  Well almost together.  When I went to atached the neck, imagine my angst when I discovered I forgot to order the neck to boday screws!!!!!  I'm sure I could run ot to the local big box hardware store and get some but it was very late Friday night and I decided to hold off until today and order the corect ones from Warmoth.

I'd love to share pictures with you guys (and I've tried 3 times).  Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong?  Everytime I attach a print from my local harddrive it never makes it to the forum.  The pictures are rather large (from a 7 Megapixel camera).  Picts reside on my harddrive.  I've tried to use the attach option as well as cut and paste into the body.  Neither seems to work.  Any hlep would be appreciated!

Thanks!

If they are JPEG change them to JPG

I just use Photobucket and copy paste the link.

If you attach via (Choose file) can only send 4 at a time.

Now that I figured out how to upload.  I'll upload more later!

Thanks UPDOWN.  By the way, UPDOWN, I'll be adding the Roland Pickup soon.  Just wanted to show off the grain without the Roland blocking any of the view.

A little help here please.......

As you probably noticed in the earlier picture, the strings were not on.  That was because I forgot to get the neck screws when I ordered the rest of the package.  Rest assured I finally got the correct screws and the guitar is complete.

Now for the request for help......

As I strung the guitar, everything seems working just fine with the possible expection of the "B" string.  It kind of plunks if you know what I mean.  I haven't done a thurough setup but the action seems pretty good and no fret buzzing on this or any of the other strings.  I'll be setting the string height and intonation very soon (probably over the weekend).
I was noting that the string angle seems to be pretty small.  I was wondering if I would benefit from a string tree?  I didn't measure the angle as I was in a bit of a hurry last night.  Would pictures help yyou guys with a recommendation?  Do these style Tele necks usually require a String Tree?

Some specifics if that helps you with the recommendation.....
Warmoth Vintage Modern
Flamed Maple
Rosewood Finger Board
10-16 Compound Radius
1 11/16
Graph TEch TUSQ XL Nut
Wilkenson Tremolo

I'll be setting the string height and intonation very soon (probably over the weekend).

By the way, the EMG's sound pretty good.  It took me a little wiring and re-wiring.  I swear I read that the pickups didn't care which way the wires were attached and I had some of the backwards.  Had to reverse them and now they work just fine.  The push to attach wires are very easy to use!

I'll be adding the Roland GK-3 pickup this weekend as well.

If the B string only "plunks" when you play it open, then that string's nut slot needs attention (it's likely too flat - the slot should slope toward the tuner). If there's no string buzz up and down the board but it still "plunks", then that string's bridge saddle needs attention.

Thanks Cagey!

Yes it only plunks open.  So, then I probably need to saw / file a slope on the slot?  I'd need to get teh correct tool.  Is this something a "novice" can do if approached in small increments or would I be better off letting a pro do it?

Some guys get away with murder filing slots with all sorts of unlikely things, but it should be done with a gauged slot file designed for the task. They usually come in sets, and run anywhere between $60 and $100...

NFS8.jpg

$100 at Warmoth

They also sell single files for $12.50 if you want to go that route, but I suspect those are mostly for replacing worn files in your set as a single file isn't broadly useful.

Filing nut slots is not particularly difficult, but it's also not something I'd expect to turn out well on the first try. Even guys that do it all the time have the occasional wreck because it's fairly easy to do and irreversible. If I were you, I'd let somebody experienced do it, or you're liable to have to replace the whole nut.

One thing to consider, though, is that if you have a good set of nut files you can save ~$40/ea. when buying necks from Warmoth, as you can do your own nut.

This is why I always buy one extra nut if I'm going to do it myself (which I always do now).  :-)  Filing nuts really isn't that tricky, you just gotta take your time.

My Warmoth nut files, along with my Stewmac nut slot alignment ruler, are some of the best investments I've made for guitar repair/building.

A torch tip cleaner works pretty well for clean up work. It's only about 4$ at the hardware store. :dontknow:

Well guys,

I finally got around to taking some better pictures of the completed project.  To refresh everyones memory, it is a Warmoth Tele Maple body with a maple quilt top and cream bindings from ant back.  The neck is a Warmoth rosewood on flamed maple.  Compund radius with SS frets.

The electronics are EMG's with a Roland GK3 pickup (not permantally mounted.

This is my first build and I'm very very ahppy with it.  It sounds great, plays great.  ( still have the plunking sound on the g and b strings but I haven't doen any of the suggested fixes yet.

Hope you like it as much as do.......

Nice choices. I'm too late but I was going to say - there's another hex option which won't obscure the grain :)

Thanks for the complements.

If you are talking about the ghost system from graphtech I'm didn't know it was around when I started this project.  If I get to do another I'm thinking that might be the way I go.  I posted a different string about plugging the locating hole because I was thinking of having no standard pups.  Something cool about not "seeing" the source of the sound.

If you are referring to some other system or can offer a good way to eleminate the hole, please let me know.  I want another highly figured top but don't like the plug options offered.  So  I either have to settle for a painted body or use normal pups.  Lots of advice to use the standard pups for more tone options.

Yes I was referring to the Graphtech Ghost system. But it really needs to be internal - you can't bolt it on like you can a GK installation.

Hi Jcul02
:blob7: OH Yeah .... a Guitar with GK-3  :guitarplayer2:

Did see your guitar in the other thread of your's.
But hadn't seen it with the GK-3 mounted.

Great looking guitar  :icon_thumright:

Thats the thing with a mounted GK, you can always take it off.
I've got 2 mountable GK's here that I can toss on the ones without the installed GK-3.
I usually have one just sitting on a Takamine Acoustic.
But those pickups (Roland) are that small they don't take away to much Grain / Flame / Quilt.

Enjoy it ... cheers  :icon_biggrin:
