FINALLY!!! I HAVE ONE!!! I'm so freaking jazzed about this thing! I've been sort of dreaming of a Bass VI, or something like it, for years, but never was able to get my hands on one. I saw Fender was releasing this, and I eventually found zZounds was selling them in just the color I wanted (C.A.R.) for $799 shipped! that, plus the $100/mo deal they have...well, I just couldn't pass it up!

this thing sounds great, though! it does need a setup pretty badly. another user said he shimmed the neck, and it helped immensely...so, I'm gonna look into that. I kind of like the bridge humbucker a little bit, but I really dig the sound of the middle/bridge together. the neck pickup can do the woody EB-0 type sound, but the small string gauge let it down a bit, as far as true deep low-end punch. the e, as a lot of people have said, is a bit floppy...but come on, it's a 30" scale bass with light gauge strings on it. the tremolo is pretty much only for effect...I only leave it in locked mode, however...it's impossible to keep in tune if I put it in full floating mode. my only gripe is the saddle guides are rubbing on the E and A strings...but that will be fixed with a setup. overall, I LOVE this thing! I'm eventually going to mod it with different pickups, a Jag switch plate, stereo outputs, and a different pickguard.

one thing I'm curious about...I'm trying to find out what production number this is...the serial # is MX12308234

I'm not sure how to decode the serial number.

oh yea, I forgot to say.....I've been playing for 12 years, and this is my very first Fender! :hiding:

It's a 2011-12 unit

On the Mexican models it's:
MN?##### = 199? where ? = first number after the letters (or the next year)
MZ?##### = 200? where ? = first number after the letters (or the next year)
MX?##### = 201? where ? = first number after the letters (or the next year)

Good for you! Judging by what I've seen/heard you do, I'm sure you'll put it to good use.

I recently set one up for another member here, and it's an unusual instrument. I'm not sure what I'd do with one, but I can imagine in your hands it'll have a fun life.

hey, sorry I've been crazy busy since I've gotten this thing in. thank you. I'm enjoying playing it (when I can).

be sure to read the description for the pickup path

I recorded it a few seconds ago. hopefully I'll be able to shoot a video this weekend, but I'm not sure what I'll play. I just was fooling around with this Foo Fighters riff, and it has the low E in it. I also have a 3 pickup Warmoth Jaguar bass, so I used it for comparison. I play the riff on the bass vi with a certain pickup selection, then on the Warmoth full scale bass in the same pickup selection for comparison. I ran both through a Pigtronix Philsopher's Tone to even out the volume difference between the two instruments...the Warmoth is a good bit louder than the Bass VI. I chose some really hot Dimarzio pickups for it when I built it.

also, I used my fingers

I wish someone would make a hardtail version of something like this.

I'm guessing the reason they don't is that the string gauge probably wouldn't fit through the holes in most hardtails or stop tailpieces on 6-string guitar bridges, and a 6-string bass bridge would be too wide for the neck.  :dontknow:

You can sorta get that with the typical hardware. Just remove the internal compression spring from that half-assed vibrato and tighten down the adjuster nut all the way. Locks everything in place about as tight as a metal-to-metal joint can be without welding. I had a Bass VI here not too long ago where we did that, and it works quite nicely. Keeps the aesthetic in place as well, so the thing doesn't look weird.
