Natural fretboard inlays?

I have seen guitars with wood inlays, dots and blocks. Obviously the bigger the inlay the more detail but from close even dots make sense. Personally if I wanted wooden dots I would do it.

The most impressive work I have seen is from Momose. They used different woods for the body, inlays and logo! Their work is impeccable, not just with this unusual guitar but with every instrument they make.

Speaking of natural inlays... Luthier's Mercantile is having a sale on something I didn't even know I needed - pressure-dyed veneer!

You can't inadvertently "burn through" the color because it's right in the wood. How cool is that? Yeah, I know. I'm easily amused. Can't help myself.

In my fantasies of building stuff from scratch, I imagine getting a nice piece of figured maple fingerboard stock and pressure dyeing it (or rather, vaccuum dying it).  My suspicion is that's what Kiesel is doing with their "Kiesel treated fingerboards."

See, e.g., this:

That would be fun. I wonder how much of a vacuum you'd have to draw to be effective? A 2' length of 3" rigid conduit with a threaded end cap on both ends, one of them drilled for an air fitting+valve of some sort would probably be enough of a dyeing vessel and could probably be made for $20 or so. Just need the appropriate vacuum pump. One of these refrigeration maintenance kits...

... is only $112 on Amazon. Gives you pretty much everything you need - vacuum pump, valves, gauges, hoses.  Hmm...

... is only $89 at Harbor Freight. Draws down to 75 microns. I don't know what that means, but it sounds serious.

I say go for it Cagey.
Show Kiesel that a Warmothian can do it too.
It would be awesome to see you come up with some cool colored fretboard.

The first color that comes to mind is red, but then we've already got Bloodwood. Of course, dyed Maple wouldn't turn brown over time like Bloodwood does, and Bloodwood doesn't have the figuring of curly Maple.

I don't see me doing it, though. I'd have to expand my workspace more than would be prudent at this time in order to get into making necks from scratch.
