Over the holidays, I was visiting family and had the pleasure of visiting DHR Music up in Cincinnati. I've never been there before (and have zero affiliation...in case anyone's wondering), but I was pretty impressed. Lots of very, very, VERY nice guitars. Some solid body electrics (Hamer and Breedlove mostly...if I remember right), but primarily acoustics, hollow-bodies and arch-tops. It's well worth a visit if you are up that way, if nothing else but to gawk at their inventory. Nice folks too.
Anyway, I played a couple of acoustics that had backs/sides of myrtle wood. I've never seen it on a guitar, but I found it absolutely gorgeous. Flamed and pale kind of like maple, but with cool color streaks sort of like black korina. I have NO idea if it would make a good top or what it would sound like on an electric, but it was sure pretty. For what it's worth, tone-wise, the acoustic sound reminded me of a maple. It might be a cool option to have on a W!!
Here are a couple of pics from the website (www.dhrmusic.com/) of some of the myrtle wood guitars I saw/played on:
