I plan on coming up with my own art-nouveau Mucha-ish designs, something like what I posted on the back and a little bit of ivy or ginko leaves on the front. I don't think I want it painted, I want it laser etched like this:

that's super cool but what id like to see if you ever have the money is this, well not this exactly but artwork done entirely in inlays, this company is a few minutes from my house, they do all kinds of art in inlays, mostly wood inlays, http://www.hudsonriverinlay.com/pages/603.html
Hannah, I am liking your idea (again) and I do have something to chime in about your vision... I would go the wood inlay route on this.... Get yourself the inlay and a dremel setup that has a router base and router bits and you can inlay that yourself. Also, since you are thinking Telecaster on your next project and you are getting into more difficult and advanced Luthiery.... if you scope out Ebay a little bit you can find tele bodies really really cheap. Honestly I think if you are gonna be cutting on a body I wouldn't be spending a ton of cash on a Warmoth body. You can find tele bodies that are licensed by fender (just like a Warmoth is) for well under $100, and that way if you screw something up on the woodworking you won't feel bad about making the body an end table!!
I have never seen laser etching done on wood, but from the pics I think it is a little anti-climatic for what you would pay to have it done..... I don't know........ I just really think that inlay would be perfect for you........ done as an inlay. And you know you are perfectly capable of doing your own finishes if you know your way around a spray can or a paint brush!!! I am becoming more of a fan of brushing laquer every time I use it!!! Good luck and keep us posted!!!
What are you looking for in an acoustic? A buddy of mine buys and sells acoustic guitars on Ebay...... Mostly Taylors....... I can have him keep his eye out for you if you like...
I like the laser etching because it's so understated. I think painting or inlay would be a little more than what I'm looking for. It would be pretty, but I would rather just have the idea of these images on the guitar rather than having a super pimped out inlay job.
I like your understated vision, Hannah. All too often, tricked-out guitars become garish as copious amounts of inlay and shiny dodads get added. I think a more subdued image is much more appropriate for the steampunk theme you seem to be going for. :icon_thumright:
