My first build

As so many others - I've been lurking around here forever. From the first time I saw this sight about two + years ago I knew I wanted to build one and realistically probably more than one. I had my first custom made way back in '84-'85 and find it very difficult to find an off the rack guitar that is what I really want. I'm no pro by any means but just know what I like and what I don't.

Warmoth seemed the perfect idea for me - I get to choose exactly what I want and not pay a fortune doing it. Plus I liked the idea of putting it together myself - knowing I didn't have to undo a set up that someone else did or being able to set it up with the light ass strings I like to play.  So for the last two years I have collected pictures of bodies that struck me - this file is now huge with hundreds of pictures of body woods and finishes that I love. I had a hard time narrowing down the shape although I was really leaning towards a Les Paul. I really liked the idea of a classic shaped guitar. So as I get closer - body shape check - wood combination check - etc.

Then this body catches my eye on the sale page - a tele? But I want a Les Paul right - hmmm? Gorgeous quilted maple top, beautiful paint job, f hole - not even close to what I was planning - but I have always like playing tele's in the store. There is just something so wrong about playing Slayer on a tele. I watch and watch - honestly I hope someone will buy it so I will quit thinking about it - nope still there. Finally I can't take it anymore I throw it in my cart and to my surprise it's even $50 less then it just was? Wow. So here it is my first project - not a Les Paul but a tele. and now I'm thinking my second project will be everything I wanted on a Les Paul but on a tele platform instead - because I frickin' love this thing.

This is all I have for now - Warmoth is making the neck - 8-12 weeks  :sad1: The rest is Birdseye on Birdseye wizard neck. All gold hardware - pearl pickguard. Duncan hot rail in the bridge with a vintage stack in the neck - for that tele look but still giving me humbuckers. So happy to be part of the Warmoth club. This thing is everything I expected and more. Can't wait to start no. 2 and I've only got the first piece of no. 1

Welcome to the boards!
Thats a beautiful cherry bursted tele, can't wait to see it completed, btw whats the wood on the body?

Very cool, not too far off from my Tele, but I don't have an F hole, and my pup configuration is a bit different.  Great choices!  I got my body off of the clearance deals, too!

Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome. It's actually a thinline - Maple top obviously Alder body. I like yours doc very nice and I'm with you I think gold hardware looks great with this sort of color on the guitar. Plus I own no other guitar with gold hardware. This thing is so different from every other guitar I own - already it looks like a bird of paradise sitting in a room full of crows.  :laughing11: :laughing3:

Here's my neck - birdseye on birdseye - sorry about the goofy direction - too tired to fix tonight. Hope you like I know I sure do. Warmoth kicks ass. :party07:

That neck is a great figuring match to the body!  This is going to be a nice build.  :icon_thumright:

That guitar is a testament of how pretty figured Maple is.

Looking forward to your next LP build and the Strat thereafter and the VIP thereafter and the L5S thereafter and the........................

After getting this guitar - don't know if I'll do a Les Paul - this may have turned me permanently into a Tele man I'll have to wait and see how much I like it once it's all put together, but so far I'm loving this thing. I've looked at the forums and galleries and there are certainly a lot of cool things to be done with a Tele.

I'm thinking my next project will be comphour burl top. Ebony/Ebony neck - floyd rose and blackouts  :headbang1:

Yeah it's funny naked fretboards didn't use to be popular. Back in '87 I had a guitar built and only put an inlay on the 12th fret and the builder told me I was crazy. Now it's all the rage. I love it - especially with woods as nice as "W" uses. Next build will be ebony/ebony with no markings - can't wait
