I've been fighting a couple of utility companies for about 5 years now about some termination fees they've hounded me about.

Long story short... Their door to door salesmen duped me into signing contracts when I said I didn't want any long term contract because I knew I'd be leaving the country for missionary work. (circa 2004 - 5).

Well when i left my apartment and moved back home they all gave me these near $1000 dollar bills because I left the contract (that I didn't want) early because I didn't know I had one.  I can't spend any time on it though, so I leave the files with my lawyer and leave on my mission.  I come home earlier than expected and cannot find my lawyer anywhere... but one of the 2 bills has disappeared from my credit report.  Fastforward a couple years later. I'm married and looking to buy a house but the other bill is still on my report making it impossible to get a mortgage.  So I call them up and send them a fax of my mission documents showing that I left the country before my contract would've been up, and thankfully they waived the fees for me and all I had to pay was 16 dollars.

We didn't end up buying a house that year but it felt good to be free of that.

Fastforward again to this year.  Gov't won't give me enough money to go to school (come OOON guys, its a LOAN!! I have to pay it back!) so i go to the bank to get a student line of credit.  and BANG.  this other old utility bill appears on my credit report after 4.5 years.  WTF this was supposed to have been taken care of.

So i spend a month digging through my parents house looking for those same documents I faxed earlier to the other company and finally find them..  So I fax them off with a cover letter saying the same thing.  and wait about 5 weeks.
Then they finally call TODAY and say that they waived the fees.....

this feels so good

THEN! I jump on the university website to check up on my grades, because there is 1 left that I"m worried sick I failed the class.
B  .. that's right I got a B. I was HOPING For a D and I got a B.

Which makes my lowest mark this semster... a B

I'm no bragging.. I'm just excited.!  It puts my GPA this semster at 3 point something.  I can't remember.  but it means I"m a contender for scholarships..

PLUS I am getting the rest of the money i need to finish school.

Things... Rock.

Tis the season, or so they say.

Glad to hear the sun is shining on you.  Enjoy, my friend. :glasses9:

Glad to hear that things are working in your favor. May I give you a little life advice though? When a door to door salesman shows up, close the door and go back to the TV. Never let them in.

That's a great story, Just goes to show you, you can be an honest upstanding citizen, and someone will try to take advantage of you.

Reminds me of when I thought I closed out my AOL account, they called me after a year wanting a bunch of money, I told them that they disconnected me a year ago for lack of payment, Back then you payed ahead of time for AOL service,
I told them we're even, I didn't pay, and you didn't provide service.

I had a similar experience recently with a website host.  Transferred the domain name away, removed all the files and they provided zero traffic to the site for two years.  They finally get their act together in billing and wanted payment for two years worth of zero bytes of disk space and zero bytes of bandwidth claiming the account was still open.  They got zero dollars and zero referrals from me.

well to be honest...  its a pretty confusing tale
I called to get the gas hooked up, but didn't sign anything, they finally sent a guy around to get the paperwork done, but since I wasn't home they got my roommate to do it. I called to complain to get it fixed and then another guy shows up.  Problem is this company has 2 divisions that don't talk to each other at all, and this new guy had nothign to do with the division I was with, so when i told him I was glad he stopped by to help me he just took ahold of my story and made me believe he was there for my behalf, when in fact he was trying to get me to sign on with his compnay instead of the one I was with (which, like i said before, is confusing because both companies have the same name).  Then when I got fed up with getting 2 bills in the mail, one from each company, I welcomed their competitor in to change companies, not knowing i was in a contract.    which... also that guy was a douchebag because he signed me on a contract as well when I told him I didn't want one.  That was teh other company that wanted money from me that got cleared up a couple years ago.

Long story short.  .. what mully said.

i am going to bed.
