My $139 VW body so far...

Bought during the VW fire sale. While not "just out of the box", here it is after dye, 2 coats of shellac, and initial sanding.

Sharp! What are you doing for a neck?

Haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward wenge/ebony with abalone dots.

Here it is after a few coats of lacquer. The lacquer looks rough in the picture, but that's misleading, it's nowhere near as bad as the pic makes it look.

Also, the date is off on my camera too!  :icon_biggrin:

That's some serious flame, bruddah!

Yeah it is. The more lacquer that goes on, the more it pops. I can't believe the steal I got.

Although, I think a canary board would look very spiffy with this finish.

Great!  :headbang:
Is it carved top body?

Yes, carved flame maple top (obviously), and mahogany back.

A Wenge/Ebony would look great!
Nice body!!! The color is going very nice!

Thank you. I'm having fun with this, and it's really going well, no mistakes so far.
The color is black RIT dye (fabric dye), which was sanded back a little, then my own mix of vintage maple and lemon yellow alcohol based dye.
The back was left natural because there's some cool grain going on in the mahogany.

Don't say "tits", hun.

You know that's only gonna encourage people to say it.

Back to the subject though, that body is tits.  :laughing11:
