MusicMan StingRay sound alike

I wish I'd have known about the SGD 2 band MM preamp when I built my last bass! Oh well, something to keep in mind for next time...  :evil4:

... and received ...thank you!

It looks very elegant! Very very clean work. The pots also feel very nice.

It'll be a while before I have the time to install.

Oh and I forget to mention that I carry Hipshot parts and things like Bourns pots, switches and even Kent Armstrong preamps.   :icon_biggrin:

Waiting on a Hipshot bridge for a Gecko 6.... :binkybaby:  <poke> <poke>

I built a 5 string bass with the Nordstrand 5.4 and an Aguilar OBP 3 preamp.  It is an Ash body with a Pau Ferro neck.  I got stainless frets on it, and I think it is swell.  I added a parallel, single, series on/on/on mini switch that really makes a big difference in the sounds you get out.  You can tweak the eq till the cows come home, and change quite a lot, but nothing like the mini switch.  It is three separate beasts depending on where that switch is.  I put the pick up in the neck spot.  I never really liked the bridge pickup sound on a bass.  I don't have a MM bass to compare it to, but I can say that the Pau Ferro neck is sinfully fun to play.  Seriously, if it doesn't sound quite the same as maple, but it is that fun to play, it is a concession I'd make every time.

Thanks Steve!  Be sure to let us know what you think.

I finally got the SGD preamp installed today it's perfect and exactly what I was hoping for.

As soon as I played the first notes my guts just went WOW WOW WOW ... it's back!!!
That original vintage REAL stingray sound that my bass had before I mistakenly put the newer '92 preamp in it.

It was so immediately obvious.

I plugged it in and had the treble and bass all the way down and dug into a few notes close to the bridge.
The mids are so right in this pre amp.
It's got that POP when you dig in, and when lightening up it's just smooth as silk.

The bass and treble are right where they should be also, just to enhance.

Thank you David!

You've nailed that vintage MM sound with this one for sure.
