Musiclander control cavity space

Hello all,

Im planning Musiclander build and was wondering if any body could help me out with knowing just how roomy the control cavity is. It looks pretty big in the pictures online. I'd like to do a typical Les Paul set up with 4 knobs and a 3 way toggle.

That's where the Les Paul similarities end though. The plan is humbucker in the bridge, strat middle pickup and a humbucker sized p90 in the neck. Controls would be a volume for each pickup and a master tone. The three way would toggle between neck and bridge in the typical fashion, with the ability to blend in the middle pickup with any position. Is that even possible? Oh and a push/pull coil split for the bridge humbucker cause why not.

Thanks in advance for any help/telling me I'm nuts

Trying to put four pots in the LP configuration in a Musiclander cavity would be tough. You can conceivably pull it off in some of Warmoth's other "bean-shaped" control cavities, but the Musiclander is a different, smaller shape.

And even if you manage to make work, you'll likely end up blocking some other key things, like the jack rout and wiring channels.

Maybe consider a freeway 10 position switch in combination with 2 concentric v t knobs.

Would any owner of a Musiclander out there be kind enough to photograph their control cavity? Would be nice to see it with some hardware in there to get a good idea of space.

I'll sort something out for you later.

In the meantime I've attached what should be a reasonably accurate drawing of the cavity.

You could fit 4 full size pots in there in an LP-ish layout, though I wouldn't want the switch in that location and, as The Aaron said, the wire channels might be awkward. Small pots would make it easier. You'd also need to pack or fill the blade switch rebate.

If you're having a BTO (Built To Order), you could ask them to omit the cavity and route your own - not that there's room to make one much bigger. Or, just add an additional cavity for the toggle.

Wow! Thank you so much for that, super helpful! Definitely looks doable but crowded and I agree that's not a good place for the switch. I'm thinking 3 pots and a 5-way should be possible. Of course.... I'm thinking about going with a  Switchback flying V instead now. Oh the joys of trying to come up with a guitar that will be "just right" (for now).

On a side note, how do you like that Kahler on your "Ultracaster"? I've always found strat trems/Floyd Rose a bit overwrought. Do you ever go down to drop-D? Is it a pain like a usual floating trem?
