I don't know if you guys will have an answer to this but I'm trying anyway. So I'm 19, live in a small town in Quebec, Canada. I'd like to attend a music school that teaches music like the Musical Institute in California (www.mi.edu) does, but California is just too far. Do you guys know of any school that teaches contemporary electric guitar that is close enough to Quebec (USA/Canada)?

Thanks

Are you French/Quebecois, or a normal white person?

I'm just joking back with Jack.  :-)

Zoot allures!  Berklee in Boston is probably the best, nearby or anywhere.

Not much about the electric guitar in itself because I've practiced and learn a lot already in the past 6 years, but learning the whole musical theory aspect in a modern music context, which means NOT classical OR jazz :P. And meeting some of the industries professionals is always nice.

PS: Like I said I live in a small town, I failed to find a qualified guitar teacher here (that is still teaching anyway).

I have an old friend who's now a professor at Berklee, two of his main courses are on the performance and musical content of Jimi Hendrix, and Jeff Beck. College credit for that! How things have changed. If you stick it out, you come out of Berklee ready to write film scores, work as a recording engineer, internet promotion etc. They've gotten stronger on the business ends of things too. Music schools used to turn out hundreds of musically-knowledgeable, hopelessly-ignorant nerds.... There are a lot of famous Berklee dropouts, like John Mayer, John Petrucci etc.

Julien doesn't play like a professor -

i think most of the "contents" especially the lyrics were composed when these artists were fully blown. so it is funny to think that there are scholars analysing this stuff.

but the musicality is a different cup of tea.
