Who would be on your Mt. Rushmore of rock?  The only rule is that they must be american.

Neko Case would be on mine.  But then again she spends so much time up here that she might not count as being from the USA.  Music knows no borders, man  :headbang:

well if they have to be AMERICAN...

I'd have to say James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, Buckethead, and Buck Dharma

I wouldn't even care that Buckethead would look ridiculous...

Well, a Mt. Rushmore would have the founders of Rock, right?
I would argue that many, many of those would be from England in the 60's, as far as what I like goes. The Americans had Rock and Roll, but real Rock started in England, I think.

Rushmore would be for the 'greats' and the revolutionary innovators- who is Buck Dharma? I know, I can google.  :tard:
It's easy to pick four Americans, as long as they include Chuck Berry. I would go with him, Jimi of course, #4 could be any of a dozen names (Phil Spector? Sam Phillips? Dylan?), and Leo Fender for the hardware side of things.

American by birth or legal naturalization?

Hendrix, Les Paul, Leo Fender, and Jaco.  IDK, just kind of pulled that out of my butt.

instead of jaco, it should be James Hetfield or anyone from metallica because they started a GIANT wave. not saying they're AMAZING but nobody can deny their power and effect on the 80's music scene.

I'm actually not much of Jaco fan and was as big of a fan of Metallica as anybody, but Jaco is considered by many of the greats to have been the greatest.  Fan or not, there's no denying that.  Jaco made it cool to play bass and for every bass player that Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton, Jason Newstead, or Robert Trujillo ever inspired to pick up the bass, once they picked up they wanted to play like Jaco.  He made it showcase instrument and took it out of the pocket.

touche, but this should be a monument of people who made a really big dent on music. I love jaco (i played bass for 5 years, and i learned portraits of tracy) but he didnt make a HUGE impact.

I disagree.  There would be no room for the lead playing styles of the Wootens or Claypools without Jaco.  He defined a style of playing the bass.  Jaco was "The" bass player.  Would anybody ever have heard of Weather Report w/out Jaco?  Metallica is one band in a genre that they didn't even define.  They were a metal band, not the metal band.  Nobody was bigger than Metallica for awhile and they made a lot of money, but a "dent?"  How did Metallica change music?  Kurt Cobain would go up before anybody in Metallica.

Very close to mine actually:

Jaco, Hendrix, Leo Fender, SRV

You guys should already know my high opinion on all of them, so i don't need to say anything.

And you can tell i am a diehard Fender guitar/bass guy...
