More Mustang body options

I have fairly large hands and always liked compact offset bodies like the G&L Fallout or G&L SC1. Both have similar bodies to the Mustang. Just have a 25.5 scale and have a variety of options for bridges and and pickups.

I was just looking at short scale bodies and was thinking the same thing. More specifically, hardtail options for Jaguar bodies.

I think a Mustang is also going to be my next project. I do prefer the Jaguar/Jazzmaster shape, but I want a 24" scale with a hardtail, so Mustang it is. It would be great, in addition to hardtail bridge options, to have a Jazzmaster style pickguard for the Jaguar. I would imagine that Warmoth is restricted in their license with Fender though.

The Jaguar is a 24" scale guitar. And if you want a hardtail, there's a company called Faction Guitars that makes a boatload of tailpiece options for those and Jazzmasters, among others. They also do all sorts of control plates and other accessories for those guitars.

Get one of those plates, and use whatever bridge you want.

I intended to use one of their fixed tailpieces to do eliminate the vibrato on a Jazzmaster, but both my JM bodies came to me drilled/routed for Wilkinson VS100 bridges (although I used a Babicz on one of them) so I didn't need to. Maybe third time's the charm. I have an urge for a candy tangerine guitar...

Some other nice things about those plates are you not only get rid of the goofy vibrato tailpiece, they allow you to buy bodies from a wider variety of sources since you don't have to worry about paying for a custom made body that doesn't have that crater in the back end of the guitar. You also have a blank plate that's ready for an extra-special mega-cool personal engraving. Finally, for those who think longer strings do something for them, you maintain the long strings that Jags and JMs have.

Unless you chose option 1H for the Jag. Should work with guitar strings too I imagine. That way you'd get more "normal" string length between tailpiece and bridge.

That looks like the best way to do it. I would like to have a recessed TOM/ string-through option though.

It is a discussion now. I just want a nice compact offset body. I am not a fan of 24 inch scale. (I actually never tried it but prefer long scale guitars for my big mitts) I was looking at guitars like the G&L fallout and G&L SC2. So in effect it does nto have to be a Mustang but a nice compact offset body shape. The mustang body shape works in that area.

Mustangs are naturally 24" scale bodies, but you could get a 'Stanger w/ no bridge route, pick out your favorite bridge and drill/route in the proper position for a longer scale neck yourself. There's plenty of room. Maybe even move the bridge pickup slightly south for good measure, and cut a custom pickguard. Since they have a standard neck pocket, that means you could get any 25.5" scale neck they make and it would bolt right on. You'd end up with a unique big neck, small offset body fiddle. If you're not equipped or inclined to drill route for bridges and pickup cavities at the right position, I happen to know a guy... :laughing7:

I custom ordered my JM body with the standard tremolo rout, to have the option of using a trem in the future, (if I ever loose my mind that is!), and used a Faction 1B conversion plate to make it a hardtail. I don't know anything about string length, beyond the distance between the bridge and nut, making a difference one way or another regarding tone, but I personally just like the way it looks. The 1B plate gives me the hard tail, the look of long strings, AND a place to put some spiffy DangerousR6 engraving! They're a little pricey, and not always in stock, but I'm very happy with the Faction plate.
