Mooncaster bass #2

Ok, so I like my first mooncaster bass so much... I'm doing another.  Body should be here on Thursday.  Out of the box photos when I get them.  But, here's the stock photo of the body.

I was such a fan of DMRACO's brown to clear burst build here: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=28896.0 that I'm having it painted brown to clear burst.  No concept image yet.  Have to see what it looks like!  However.  There's this mighty tasty quartersawn wenge 30" scale calling out to me.

I'm also thinking of plain maple for the neck.  That one would have to be custom, or I wait.  Anyway, concept images when I have the body.

Yes, I know, I have the pau ferro jazz also in work in progress as well.  I need some bits for that one yet. 

Also, DMRACO pointed out to me on my first mooncaster bass that I had wrenched down on the bridge too far, lowering it to the point that I needed to reverse shim the neck.  Silly me.  Once I had raised the bridge about a quarter inch I was able to remove the shim.  Lesson learned.  I should post that in the other build thread, but I think i necro my threads too often.  I'll just incorporate it here.  Thank you DMRACO!

Brown to clear should be exceptional. Especially with that wenge neck.

Yesterday I got a nice package from the UPS guy.  I opened it up and it was a fiesta red strat.  Due to some mishap in shipping I got someone else's order.  So if anyone is expecting a fiesta red strat body (I don't remember the name) they had me send it back to W.  Sorry!

Oh, and last night I got a new notice from UPS that a box is on its way to me, due next Wednesday.  It looks like the wrong number was entered at some point and I got double shipped.  I'm willing to bet something like this doesn't happen very often!

Interesting mix-up. With the volume W does, their mixups are few. They seem to jump quickly to make things right when it does happen.

Oddly enough, I got a mis-addressed parcel yesterday, too. Some other guy's medical records.

Just a little disappointing.  I was hoping to see the body!  Honestly tho, I'd rather have that than someone's medical records.  Yikes.

Mother of God...  The pic doesn't do it justice.  It has depth and shimmers when you move it around.

So far, what I like best is the pau ferro that's on my first mooncaster.  Now, if I can just find something that I like more on the first one...

I think I found it.  There's a wenge/ebony neck in the showcase:

Wow, that's a superb body. Good choice of neck for it, too. Wenge/ebony. Can't get much better than that.

Gonna be tough to put that down once it's playable.

So, yeah, the plan is to take the pau ferro neck off the first mooncaster, and put it on the new one.  And order a new neck (wenge/ebony) for the first one.  I just like the coloration scheme better.  But, once it is in hand, we will see!

Yeah, sometimes subtle shading/grain differences, etc. can show up in real life that aren't as clear as maybe they could be in pictures. I know I still have a black cherry carved top Tele I've never been able to bond with because it looks too much like metal flake. Didn't look like that in the showcase.

Gorgeous! The tinge of red in the Pao Ferro really makes this one work.
