Mini Humbucker Question

I've got a body on order that'll be routed for P-90s. However, I think I've decided I'm putting mini humbuckers in this guitar. My question is this: How do mini hums respond to volume knob changes? If they respond as well as P-90s do then I might just do a volume - volume control layout (only 2 pot holes). If not then I'll stick to the volume - tone layout.

Any insights?

I once had a 74 Gibby LP Dlx. The mini;s responded quite well to vol controls. Then again I tend to set up my rig for vol less than full. That is pretty key.

Another question... What would be the best way to go about mounting mini humbuckers? They'll be in mounting rings, but is there a good way to get the pickup mounted into the guitar body from there?

I'll be using the P-90 style rings, but I've seen metal plates for mounting the pickups before. Wasn't sure if I'd be better off trying to make some of those myself or what.

EDIT: Like this

I intend to just wood mount mine on a build I'm doing. But since the screws are ungodly thin this will require good pilot holes and some care. I'm used to wood mounted PU's, as almost all bass PU's are that way (though better screws are used).

Metal plates and machine screws are likely much more robust, but it's a little more work and it's not like I spend my life adjusting the PU heights, so...

Yeah, once I get my pickups set where I like then that's pretty much where they stay. However, the body is basswood so I'm thinking the metal bracket might not be a bad idea.
