I am putting together a tele thinline “partscaster” and have ordered the P-Rails for neck and bridge. I am going to have two mini switches enabling switching between P-90/humbucker/rail (I know the pickup rings exist but have opted for this setup instead).

I am now looking for a single coil to put in the middle. I would love to be able to achieve classic Strat tone - Lenny, Little Wing, Sunshine of Your Love - that sort of thing. I am a hobbyist and will mostly be playing low vol at home. Any thoughts?

I am an HSH fan and I like P-rails. However I have not use P-rails in an HSH guitar yet.

In my experience with P rails the neck pickup works better upside down IE with the rail towards the neck. It sound much better as a rail that way.

Having said all of that I would recommend something medium output like a Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro Strat Middle to pair well with the Duncan P-rails.

Also if you are going al they way with this and are planning to use a super switch, I have been working on an HSH schematic that will auto split the p-rails on positions 2&4 and give you the neck & bridge on position 3. I will see about finishing that up soon.

I admit I have nothing to contribute to the topic, but I was wondering and curious how "Sunshine Of Your Love" is an example for "classic Strat tone". Are thinking of a specific recording or live version of the song?
