Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier

Ok, guys, I can do my guitar builds from the ground up with no problem. When it comes to amps though I am totally ignorant other than I know what I like when I hear it. I don't know much about the inner workings and various wattage etc.... My question is this, and it's fairly simple.

Is the 25w Mini Rectifier enough amp to get over the drums at practice and to use in a live situation? Through a 4x12 of course.

I'm 44 years old this year and tired of hauling around heavy ass amps. This mini Recti really appeals to me. So, help me out here. I've heard many people say that 25w is no problem. I want to get as many opinions as I can first though.

Thanks in advance,
MULLY
will buy this weekend most likely

I have one....LOVE IT!!!  The 25W will be PLENTY!!!  They are loud.  I have it going thru an avatar 1x12 celestion annv. model.  It rocks.

I have played it thru a 4x12 too.  No issues to be had.

Are you playing Gain (my guess) or clean?  either way you should fine.

The last time I played out, I kept in in 10W mode and really turned it up to drive the tubes.  No issues there either.

If you would like a CHEAPER option, the Jet City JCA22H is also very nice.  It is not switchable with wattage.  It does Hi gain very well.  Still not as small as the mini rectifier.

Thanks for this. Yeah, I'm Mesa all the way. I've had a Road King, Dual Recti Trem-o-verb, Single Recti combo, and a Stiletto deuce. I'm just getting too old to be carrying around these big ass heavy amps. As for gain, oh yeah, gain is my friend. I play things like AC/DC (mild) and Metallica (heavy) and I'm the type that doesn't like to rely on pedals for my distortion. I was just wondering if the Mini, running through a Marshall 4x12, would have enough ass to get over the drums. Sounds like it will.

Think Dual recto...only smaller.
It is a bit warmer because of the EL84.  I think it does classic rock a little better than the Dual.  I do not use Pedals for distortion.

While 20w into a 412 is likely to be heard... I question the 412 if the reason is you're tired of hauling stuff around.

I have a Studio .22 Boogie I've used for the past 23 years it has plenty of power , and I run it through a Marshall 4x12 when I need to move more air.

25 watts into an efficient speaker should be no problem.

15 watts is about where you start running into trouble with a full band.

I have no idea who really needs 100 watts any more.  It's kinda like that old motorcycle saying: "you need 250cc to haul your body around.  The rest is to haul your ego around" :)

i was thinking the same...a good 1x12 or 2x12 will work in most.  Especially if you are micing the whole rig in the mix

Sorry, I should have been clearer on that. Live houses here in Japan ALWAYS have a Marshall 4x12 on stage. I surely won't be hauling around a big ass cabinet like that. hahahaha!!! Nope, I'll settle for the Mesa 1x12.

BTW, I went out and bought the Mini Recto today. Sounds fantastic and has plenty of ass behind it.

thanks for your replies in this thread. Very helpful!!

ENJOY!

Post a vid.

Also, take some time with the EQ section.  The head is VERY responsive to changes.  You can really change thew sound a ton on both channels.  This was not the case with my Mesa TA-15.

Either you're an irradiated Japanese monster, or that mini-recto is a lot smaller than I thought <grin>

No wonder you're itching to change over. Hell, you could almost fit that thing into a fanny pack.

Funny you should say that.....

LOL! Way too cool! Rompin' and stompin' without all the soul-crushing load-in/out. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Who says size matters.

Mainly, the pathetically insecure. I mean, anyone who's ever seen even a little bit of porn knows they don't have a problem. There are a few freaks in the world, but that's all they are. Nothing anyone would encounter on a regular basis.

I hate being a freak, but someone's gotta do it.

BTW, just to give you an idea, I am 6'1 and weigh a touch over 400lbs. So yes, I am like an irradiated Japanese monster, but this amp really is tiny. It almost looked like a joke sitting on top of that 4x12. hehehe!!

Way too cool - played one a few weeks ago and was impressed.  Had a DC-3 head that was plenty powerful enough for live use through a 4x12.  Overdriven EL84s are sweet.

The distributor for Mesa is totally out of the 1x12 cabinets for the Mini Recto. Said they wouldn't be in until mid-late July. Asked if they could knock the price down from 680 to 600 and was told they would do 640. Went searching around and found a used one in new condition on Yahoo Auction for 480. If all goes well I'll be the owner of a Mesa Boogie 1x12 slant cabinet tonight.
