Mary Kaye finish

I do. I'd have to try to email you a pic as I am useless at uploading them here. Mine was an odd find on the Showcase, its chambered poplar with a maple top that is nothing spectacular but is nice in Mary Kaye White. The thing I really like about the Mary Kaye finish is that it looks white but you see the grain. Swamp Ash could be a great one in that finish. Mine has a maple neck with Cocobolo on front (think rosewood like) MJT did my finish but I would think Warmoth would be as nice. I did it with MJT because at the time I couldn't afford a finished body off the showcase so originally got it unfinished. I'll see if I can get a pic up here. Its not the one in my profile picture, that one is solid vintage white.

Thanks,
I am looking for input about Warmoth's version of the finish. I certainly know Tonar does an awesome job.

Here's a page of Warmoth Strats with Mary Kay finishes.

Quite frankly, I like Tonar's result better, but knowing the unerring quality of Warmoth's finish work, I suspect the difference is in the underlying body's wood grain. In the six pictured above, given that they're all Swamp Ash, it seems they chose somewhat underwhelming pieces. The grain doesn't stand out in any of them. Either that, or Warmoth is putting too much pigment in the color coat.

That was my thought. I am concerned its more of a finish item than the Ash grain, thus why I posted. I just have to plan on more coin for a Tonar finish.
PS< the strat neck you did for me is awesome. The other guitarist in one of my groups is totally green with envy.

I'm just speculating, but it may be that Warmoth uses a clear grain filler, while Tonar's using a "neutral" one, which actually comes out tan.  That may also play a part in the higher contrast grain in Tonar's work vs. the Warmoth shop.

Guys, I am trying to save hundreds of dollars,,,, you are not helping LOL. And the wife doesn't even know about this build idea LOL,

Sorry, didn't read your post closely enough.

Is this going to be just one of many guitars you have on hand or a particularly noteworthy one? Answer that and you have the direction to go on the finish.

Personally, I like Tonar's Mary Kaye finish way better than the Warmoth one.

All guitars are particularly noteworthy. If they are not, they get sold.
Thank you all for confirming what I was thinking. Need more coin for a Tonar finish.
