Maple neck not absorbing Tru Oil

I bought an unfinished maple neck from Warmoth, and when I applied a few coats of Tru Oil it seems like it doesn't really absorb into the wood at all. I'm wondering if the sealer they use is sealing out the oil too. Part of what I was looking for was a slight amber color since that maple is extremely white, not very attractive. The color didn't change at all after the tru oil, zero. Oddly, I have another maple neck that I know for a fact is completely raw and the Tru Oil soaks right in and gives it a nice light amber color.

So is this a sealer issue, and if so how can I remove it enough to get some oil into it?

I've used Tru Oil on two Warmoth necks, one has taken on more of a tint than the other. I think it was mainly to do with the fact that one piece of maple was a lot whiter than the other.

Both necks I gave a light sand prior to tru oil application so the preparation was the same.

So you could try a light sanding but as mentioned above that may not make a difference. The other thing you could do is tint the maple with a water based dye or tint prior to applying the tru oil.
