The room where I play/practice is in my basement, which has low ceilings. You can usually spot my builds by the white paint marks on the top edges of the neck headstocks.

As most agree, Phill along with that era of SNL were hilarious, but your observations are so true. I've never been one to "fret" over scuffs and scratches. Things are going to happen, so let it happen...It's called character....
