Well, 2017 can go straight into the same trash heap as 2016 belonged in.

The greatest heavy rock rhythm guitarist ever to tread the boards has gone on ahead.

We salute you.

RIP.

I assume everyone here has seen AC/DC live? Amazing live band and not just when they made those mega big shows.
I've seen them a couple of times here in Sweden, once when they were the supporting act(!) to Black Sabbath. Good times! :headbang:

Amazing talent.  Always overshadowed by Angus but the backbone of the AC/DC sound.  Wrote most of the music from what I gather.

I read the plays so hard he literally tore through a pick every song or two.

The sad day has arrived but at least now he is at peace. Dementia is a tough ride for both the patient and the family. I am very happy  (but more importantly for his family) that in obituaries he's getting great comments from his peers.... Lots of well known rock artists really attesting to Malcolm's contribution to rock music. He was one of those hard driving rhythm guitarists that drive some bands to greater heights. Plus he also originally organised the band and contributed with all their music... The likes of Malcolm Young are very few and far between. We've been lucky to capture some of that sound for posterity.

I played the role of Malcolm in an AC/DC tribute for many years. The guy was a rhythm guitar, back-picking monster. The subtle variations he would incorporate into his parts were absolute genius. Just enough to give the songs momentum through the second verse and beyond, but never obvious. On casual listen to a song you don't hear much difference. You figure it's another simple IV, V, I song...no big thang. But when you really sit down and learn the part, you realize there is so much more going on than you ever thought, and it's all necessary. For a perfect example, learn his part to Bad Boy Boogie....and don't assume that once you know the first verse, you know the rest of them. You don't. :)

Oh....and rule of them for Malcolm's tone: less distortion than you think. Nope, still less. No...even less than that.

RIP Malcolm!
