Making Sobriety Easier

I dunno; maybe root cause = dangerously deranged? He may have been huffing glue out of a sock....

LOL as wasted as he is, the whole pick up lick thing is actually good advice to someone who doesn't know....

Personally, I keep a tape of me trying to get through "You've Got A Friend" that I recorded under the heavy influence, to remind me that
a) I ain't no James Taylor
b) Drinking and getting loose for playing a song, are two separate issues...and one does not help aid the other  .

When you're in this kind of shape before a gig, make sure you have a couple of sloppy songs to start the night out with, like "Stay With Me" or "Honky Tonk Woman." And never, as a band, get drunk, and then think you can take something to wake you up. Steven Tyler has stories about attempting to balance himself out with alchohol and blow and trying to find a happy medium back in the seventies.

I found long ago that I could not have one drop of booze in me before a show.  It would completely screw me up.  Same with my bass player, so we are the sober cold turkey pair in the band.  My singer thinks she needs a beer before going out there, but that's probably just psychological.  The drummer - well just a drummer  :icon_biggrin:

I always time our setlists so the show ends just before last call so I can go get a beer after the gig!  :occasion14:

I really enjoy playing shows a little buzzed.  I'm not one of those that thinks that i need a drink before playing, but it is fun.

When i was in college, i played in this bluegrass/old-timey/folk group.  We were a big hit with the bar crowd.  We ended up getting hired to do a ton of keggers.  It was always a trip when people would offer to buy us shots in exchange for playing "I Saw the Light" or some other old-timey song about Jesus and repentance... :occasion14:

The key here is to write a song about drinking & buying the band a beer.
