Mahogany body question

Hi guys, new guy here. 
I got a question about mahogany. In some pictures I've seen it looks real dark, in other pictures its very light.
So if I got a mahogany body from warmoth, no laminate top just good ol mahogany, with a clear gloss finish, how would it look? would it darken up quite a bit? pictures welcome thanks guys

As for the Mahogany question, Warmoth uses African Mahogany, which has a very nice grain to it. I'm working on an L5S right now that's solid Mahogany, and here's a shot of it where you can see the difference between raw and a clear finish...

That's not actually finish, it's just naptha, but the effect is the same. When I shot some sealer at it the other day, it came out the same way. In the end, it's going to have the back and sides clear-coated, which should match up nicely with the cream binding and dark green top.

Thanks for the clarification, I could never find a straight up picture of unfinished and clear coat difference on warmoth mahogany. Have you ever stained mahogany or gone about some way of making it darker?

Yes. I have a Warmoth Strat body which is also solid Mahogany that I treated with potassium dichromate. Interesting stuff. You can read how that went here.

Mohogany back with maple top. Finish is Behlen's master-gel.

On the back shot the lighting is just a bit misleading, it looks very slightly darker.

My avitar pic is a warmoth mahogany but I believe it has a little bit of darkening dye in the finish.
I didn't finish that one.

Hey bagman,

I used LMI FMBF8(R) Color = Dark Walnut / Rosewood
http://www.lmii.com/products/finishing/filler/lmi-micro-bead-acrylic-paste-filler

It kind'a' looks like melted chocolate after adding some water.

I also used it on my black korina body and looking in the plastic jar now, it seems like one 8 oz. jar will probably
do 6 to 8 bodies.

There's another grain filler I found recently that I haven't tried yet, but shows great promise.

One of my buddies just bought a batch of it that we're going to use on a solid walnut dining room table we're building, so I'll know more in a week or so how well the stuff works.

I eagerly await your report, Cagey.  The Timbermate is easy to work with, but getting the right tint is hard.

Yeah, I was just using some "neutral" Timbermate the other day and while it's easy to work with and does a good job, it would be tough to use under any kind of clear finish where you didn't want to see it at all.

Not sure if this applies or not.  This is a mahogany body with just a light tung oil finish with no grain filler.  Very simple finish but warmed up the wood nicely.

Here's my all mahog explorer, out of the box then finished with filler and  Tru oil...
