LSR "Prep" - slight confusion

Hello all, Its Sunday and i'm looking at the Nut options on the custom neck builder
In the section on the drop-down it say LSR "Prep" for the LSR roller nut. Does this mean Warmoth cut the slot only, and I buy the nut from the hardware section and fit it myself on delivery?

Or, do I select the nut from the hardware section with my order and they fit it as part of the ordered neck?

Bit unclear to me that's all, someone please put me out of my misery......... ???

They cut the slot only, you buy the nut from the hardware section and install it yourself.

And when you put it in, you MUST use a #51 (.067") drill bit for the pilot holes (-that is, if W doesn't drill them for you as part of the prep) and a #0 phillips screw-driver! -NO SUBSTITUTES for these tools or you will shed tears of regret, -guaranteed! -Also, wax your screws!

As delicate as the job is of installing the LSR, it is very worth it; -the best mechanical nut I've used to date.  :icon_thumright:

Thanks Cagey / Day-mun

As a carpenter to trade I have a vast array of tools to hand.

Can't understand why Warmoth don't just screw on the LSR nut for you though....I mean, if you are custom building a neck from scratch you are also specifying a certain fret size/height - surely they could shim it to the correct action height for a few extra $$$?

Just my opinion I suppose, but hey I could always just buy a Fender Am-Deluxe and save myself the aggro  :evil4:  :icon_biggrin:

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that it impinges on one or more of their licensing agreements, in that they're installing hardware which begins to smack of "building" or "assembly". They're just a parts supplier.

Ok, I agree, I suppose half the fun of building anything is in the nerves and the hot sweats when you're dealing with lots of cash and the determination to create something you're proud of

:headbang:

On all of mine the pilot holes have been drilled by W, so you just need to insert a few shims and screw it in.

I could see it as being no different than any other nut install or having bushings installed for a Floyd or T-O-M and stoptail.  Then again, I could see it like a Floyd nut or tuner ream choices with no install.

I'm guessing they don't want to commit to a certain fitting of the LSR only to find you are using a higher bridge? Warmoth probably very aware that other bodies & bridges than they stock, could be used.  :dontknow:

I had pilot holes drilled for mine as well.

Bushings are in regards to the body, which is not mentioned in the lisence agreement, which is posted in its entirety on the Warmoth website.  Necks are the whole gist of the lisence agreement and while they have been given a lot of leeway, they certainly have areas that they need to steer clear of.
