LP Warmoth

I love my Warmoth LP, and I prefer the bolt on neck.  If something were to seriously damage that neck, I could just get a new one, as opposed to a Gibson, in which case I would be screwed.

I decided to get my Warmoth instead of a Gibson because I figured out that I could get exactly what I wanted for $800 less than a Les Paul Classic off the shelf with no extra bells and whistles.  I was able to get incredible figuring on my maple top for half the price I would have paid Gibson for so-so flame or quilt, and I was able to get it in a blue burst.  I also was able to get a thinner neck, which was something I needed because my hands are tiny.  Plus I got to choose the woods I wanted, some of which are woods that Gibson doesn't use.  Oh yeah, and I got a chambered body for weight relief, and a contour for high fret access.

i'm leaning towards a flat top LP body a bit cheaper and i like that style, i figured with all my parts and pickups at around 1g maybe cheaper if my buddy lets go of his emg's but the guitar will be built to my style like all of you said. So in a way its a signature series warmoth ;)

curious though on those EMG pickups can you just have two volume pods or do u need the tone knobs.

I say go for it if you're not afraid of the work. You like building things, so the construction part shouldn't be that hard, and frankly, if you have to pay for a set-up afterwards, that's really no big deal. Lots of people buy guitars off the shelf then pay for set-ups. What's the difference?

I love my Warmoth LPS, and bolt-on necks to me just feel more solid (plus, like Hannaugh said, if something happens, you can change it; hell, you can change for the sake of changing it if you like!). That being said, there are a few things I would change if I could go back - my altered control placement, the way my finish turned out, maybe a contoured heel - but they are all my fault and in no way reflect on the quality of Warmoth parts. Warmoth is about getting what you want, exactly how you want it. My advice? Make sure you know exactly what it is that you want, then get it. You won't regret it!

I wired my EMGs with a mster tone and master volume...but you can do individual if you like.  Many options.

Wood to wood > Wood to glue to wood

If you're lucky like me you got a neck/body fit that didn't hardly need screws at all it was so tight!  :hello2:

Cant wait to get on it should be starting this build in a few weeks it may take sometime the wife just started a new job so we have better income but i have to get the bills in order before a new project but im going to get the smaller parts, bridge, knobs, pickup covers things like that so when i get the body i just put it all together ;)

Should i get my body cut for a double battery slot for the EMG's or is a single cut enough?

if you want to do an 18 volt mod two batteries will be necessary. I'd like to have a double box in my guitar even if it was only for holding a spare battery, cuz I think it'd be useful, but for normal purposes only the single battery box is necessary for emg's.

and it continues to work real well right up to the point you put the strings on  :laughing7:

Get the double.  You can wire the two batteries in series for 18v, or the two in parallel for 9v that lasts twice as long.  On one of my builds, I did a DP/DT switch that allowed me to do 9v or 18v at the flip of a switch w/out a rewire.

That is an awesome idea :icon_thumright:

If you have a schematic for that, you gotta send that my way!

It's technically the same as a four conductor humbucking pickup.  Instead of switching coils from parallel to series, your switching the poles of 2 batteries from parallel to series.  Be careful when switching though.  That little milli-second when the switch is between positions, the battery is actually being unplugged then replugged.  It's the equivalent of unplugging and replugging an instrument cable.  Do it with the amp muted between songs or with a volume pedal all the way down.

In the diagram, OUT + goes to the red wire on the EMG pickup(s).  OUT - goes to the black wire on the provided stereo jack.  When done put a DC tester on the OUT + and OUT - and flip the switch.  In one position it reads 9v, in the other it reads 18v.  Success.

Awesome, thanks for the info, bro!  Gonna have to re-wire my ML now. :eek:ccasion14:
