Long Legged pickup direct mount?

Hello all. I’m about to order another 7-8 S-style body and would like to direct mount a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck position. This pickup, unfortunately, has the dreaded long legs and the internet conventional wisdom says it will require a pickup ring mount. Has anyone out there tried a direct mount for this and can it be done in normal Warmoth/Fender depth route? I know there are two depth options, but am hoping that perhaps it works with the direct mount depth. Thanks!

Direct mounting long leg humbuckers is no go I'm pretty sure. I think you can order a short legged '59 from Duncan as a "shop floor custom" option, or if you already bought it it's not that hard to swap out the baseplate for one with short legs. I've had to do that before, you can get a baseplate from Mojotone, Philadelphia Luthier, and plenty of others
