There's no problem. It's line6man who's misread the diagram and photo.

I just double checked, and you're right. :doh:

So the diagram and wiring were right all along. But now there is a different problem. The tone pot sees the variable impedance load from the pot.

Hehe, don't worry - I've misread diagrams and then wired guitars according to my misreading before. That is ANNOYING. I got round it by, well, I guess by learning about it to the point I don't need or use diagrams any more for most wiring.

That's fine though - it just alters how the volume and tone controls interact. I prefer modern wiring but there's a place for both.

There are pros and cons of doing it either way.  I have 50s wiring in my Strat, and I love it.  Got the diagram out of this article:
