Depending on the music you play and amps you use, Angus Young can get a decent tone from his SG (originally christianed as Les Paul anyway) comparable to Jimmy Page's Led Zep anvil before he had to resort to a chambered one due to his bad back.  For the forearm contour on a LP, I am not too sure of the aesthetic but then again if comfort override looks go for it.
