I have been in the mood to give a solid mahogany set neck design a try.  So I am giving one of these a shot.

the website is http://precisionguitarkits.com/Les-Paul-Junior-Double-Cut-Kit.html

There are doing a few custom items for me like a double humbucker route.  I cannot wait.  I purchased a small piece of mahogany to practice the finish one.  I will keep everyone posted.

I don't know if this is after the original design but the original double cuts were notoriously weak around the neck joint.
I owned a 57 LP special double cut and a 57 LP TV Jr. single cut it it was an obvious difference in strength in that the double cut neck would flex very easily.

The DC with two pickups, that had the neck pickup very close to the neck... If I remember correctly it was in 1958, then they corrected it...

I am having them place it VERY close to the neck fretboard...just enough to fit a PU ring.  It is about 1/8th inch.  I have also asked to to leave as much material as possible for glue.

All in all...if cannot be worse than a flying V!!

... or a SG!

There are pics on the very beggining of the "Make Your Own...." book my Melvin Hiscock about these LP Jr, he uses as examples on how it need to be done to be right... I can't remember where my book is now, but this pic you showed seems like will be ok, very long and thick tenon... Just doesn't get the pickup routed too deep and it will be ok...

I spoke with Phil today and he assured me there would be no issues.  He even offered to set the neck for me.

The neck PU will be .130" away from the fretboard...just enough space for a PU ring. :toothy11:

Did he say what the cost of the pickup routing was?  I emailed him about neck binding and he was very friendly.  Torn between making one of these:

That is a pretty cool kit.  Now I have the urge to make a single cut JR.

I wonder if I can get Tonar to finish it....

I like that color of that Les Paul, very odd.... :icon_thumright:

Aw man. There must be rules against this. I have more than enough GAS for Warmoths ...  and now this?!  :tard:

Well - do they do bindings?  :icon_biggrin:

All of the custom routes are costing me $60.  that inlcudes the PU, and the changes in the control cavity.

They are located somewhere in Canada.
