My guess is that the carve was altered because thick enough maple stock for the now-eliminated carve style got too expensive.  It's a 3/4" bookmatched slab we're talking about.  Not cheap.

Have a look here and scroll down to 'How It Is Done - The "Double-Lam Top"'. The old style carve with the 'peaked' horns wouldn't be possible with this approach.

I think there was legal action, or the threat of it, from PRS several years ago and Warmoth changed the outline shape, body thickness and maybe other design details as a result.
