Is there a rule-of-thumb so to speak concerning lead dress? What I mean is, are certain leads coming close together going to cause more oscillation than others? How should I know which ones will do this?
From my limited experience (built a Ceriatone Vibro-Champ), and research (several books), the most important ones are the grid lines, pins 2 and 7 on the preamp tube.
You want those to be shielded, with only one end of the shielding being grounded.
The filament wires should be twisted and kept away from the signal wires. Around the outside of the chassis. I understand that this is sort of a catch 22 since the filament wires and the signal wires go to the tubes, and well... Still keep them as much apart as possible and this should help. The 120 V AC in should also be kept away from anything like the signal wires. Current will cause noise, and those are two sources of a lot of current.
