It may be blasphemy to do anything other than a clearcoat or oil on that.

Sometimes they do Tobbaco Burst and it's nice, deppending on the point of view... Spalt to me is to be painted clear!

You can't buy Spalted Maple unfinished from Warmoth; due to the fact that it's relatively soft, it has to be impregnated with some kind of epoxy resin first. I doubt they'd dye it as you'd have issues doing so, but you can get a trans finish like on the Tele above,
