Laminate top question

Now I'm almost entirerly into white guitars, but some day in the future I might make a laminate top in some way.

But do they have to be "double mirrored"? While that can look nice, it's not what I want for a laminate top myself.
I think it would look more "lively" if it was a single piece on the top.

Bookmatching ensures a symmetrical appearance. One-piece tops are generally only chosen when they look good with the particular build. I would never specify one without picking it from the gallery first, because you can't know that you will be happy with it. That being said, one-piece tops do show up sometimes.

Bookmatching can also let you get away with working with smaller (and therefore less expensive) stock.  On that reasoning, it seems likely an interestingly-figured one-piece cap on a carved-top LP could set you back a lot more shekels than a bookmatched top.  And on a droptop Strat or a Tele, it seems likely the price might go up as well.

There's always teh option of putting a once piece top on yourself ..  it opens up a whole new world
