JTV Variax guts into warmoth double bound purple dye flame tele

This baby used to house my old variax 500 guts. Just got it back a few weeks ago from Guitar Tex in san antonio. John did a great job in cramming the new JTV variax guts into this guitar.

Swamp ash body
AAAAA flame maple top in purple dye
headstock in matching flame dyed purple
Double bound in pearloid
flame maple neck with brazilian rosewood and pearloid diamond inlays
25.5 inch scale compound radius, planet wave locking tuners

Also added were the duncan custom shop pearloid prails. Also upgraded to ghost saddles from graphtec.

I need to do something about the knobs. I already have replacement knobs for the pearloid ones. I can order a chrome model selector from Line6 but I don't think they currently have a chrome alt tuning knob. May have to hack something together there.
I was scared when I first saw the "bandaid" looking pearloid cover for where the old 5 way went. It has grown on me quickly. Sort of dig the vintage vibe on a guitar that basically houses a computer!

I call that the bandaid. When I first saw it I almost freaked, but I actually really dig it now. The old variax used a 5 way switch. This one is a 3 way, so my guy made a matching pearloid "bandaid". I was originally going to just leave the 5 way in there as a dummy and add the 3 way, but this has grown on me. . .lol. ..

This is really close to a project I was considering doing. I've had trouble locating an old, inexpensive variax to gut and kind of gave up on it.  Suffice to say, I like what you've accomplished here.  I didn't think the old Variax guitars were JTVs though. I could be wrong. I settled on the fact that I might as well buy a new JTV rather than start trying to transplant parts. Anyway, nice guitar!!!!

Just the top alone cost 200 bucks extra. Well worth it.
