John Hall is the owner of Rickenbacker guitars, the second generation of Halls that ran the company. Something I didn't know, but MC Hall Sr. was the world wide distributor for Fender instruments in the 50's. Mr Hall bought Rickenbacker from Adolf Rickenbacker around the same time because of, er, issues with Fender quality.
Check out this video of John Hall's memories from that time. Around 3:30 Mr Hall drops a couple of bombshells retarding the quality of fenders they were getting in the 50's. Very interesting

Love em or hate em, Rickenbacker at least kept things in the family and never sold out to anyone. A Rick you buy today is essentially the same instrument that you'd have bought in the 60's. At least you have to respect that - even through I could never buy a 330 Warmoth body
