Hey, all -
My friend and former guitar teacher, Stevie Coyle (formerly with the Waybacks), owns a high-end acoustic guitar store, Mighty Fine Guitars, in Lafayette, California. His niece owns the more general-purpose music store to which his establishment is attached, Lamorinda Music, and they have a small stage where they host a lot of nifty gigs by players who come through town and want to do a real intimate gig.
Well, a fella name of Jason Newsted, formerly of an outfit called Metallica, is a neighbor; and he's doing an acoustic guitar duo thing called Would and Steal these days. He did a little performance there today (the debut of Would and Steal) where he did a bunch of songs (covers and originals), demo'ing lots of custom guitars built by California luthiers. Audio's not amazing, since it's basically a live webcast recorded on a Macbook using its webcam and internal mic, but it's a fun thing anyway. At some point a lanky older dude with glasses and gray hair sits in - that's Stevie.
And if you find yourself in the market for a high-end acoustic check out my friend's shop. One of these days when I have a spare $5,000 or more that I can pull out of my couch cushions, that's where I'll go to scratch my guitar itch.
