J pickup selection

I am waiting for my deluxe Iceman to get here and was wondering about J pickups.  I know there's a million choices and its subjective but I just wanted some opinions on which to get.  The bass will be a 5 string with a Deluxe 5 neck 24 fret, 1 7/8 nut, and a Badass 5 bridge.  I am going passive with V-V-T and was thinking of using the Stuart-Mac prewired harness.  My bass style- finger playing with slap/pluck sometimes.  Robert Trujillo and Flea are my heros.  So I want an Infectious Grooves/Chili Peppers sound out of this bass.

Aguillar, Duncan, Dimarzio...  thanks

I finished a Deluxe 5 Jazz build close to a year ago now, and put a pair of Nordstrand nj5fs jazz pickups into it.  They're a hum cancelling design, but still have the Jazz tone to them.  Really happy with the choice.

They are wired to a Nordstrand active preamp (volume-balance-treble-bass), with a push/pull pot for passive.  I really like the preamp as well.  Haven't used it too often in passive mode, but the pickups still sound good when I do.  Very easy to get the Geddy Lee growl out of my bass.

And this is probably just me, but I've always prefered the balance pot over 2 volumes.

If you can find an older set of Seymour Duncan's Basslines, the ones with the 3 flip switches directly on the top of the coil cover, those are really nice pickups, lots of headroom, and very versatile.  I installed quite a few of those for customers back in the early 90's when they were new to the market.  I always liked how you could flip the switches around without having to have a gazillion knobs on the face of the instrument.

My fave Jazz pickup config is this with both pickups wired to a single volume control (ala Timothy B. Schmidt/Eagles) no other tone knobs, Just both pickups at once.

I put SD Quarter Pounders in my Jazz and they're great. I'm back and forth between a vintage and the QP on my Precision because those QPs are a little harsh but the Jazz one's are just right.
