+1 on that...  :icon_thumright:
I would be all over it.  Would be very cool :headbang1:

Only problem is, someone would need to custom-make those mini J control plates.  Otherwise it's a great idea.  It looks great as a guitar.

Ha, DBW, you beat me too it. I was just about to say the same thing, and when I went to post, it said there was a new reply.
+1 on the custom plates.

It could be rear-routed, so no plate necessary.  Also, a Tele style plate could be used.  Just occurred to me, a Mustang plate is like a smaller, swoopier J-Bass plate.

I don't think I can get that to work (the mustang plate).
The body shapes are too different. The J Bass has CURVES, while the mustang is a bit flatter.

A Jazz bass doesn't look like a Jazz bass without a control plate and a pickguard to complete the look.

^ Agreed. In my view, the body shape AND the pickguard and control plate are the defining factors of the J-bass design.

***Them doing the 3/4 soloist is almost the same thing...aint it?  :icon_scratch: this just has unique hardware.

1. The body: It seems logical to start with the neck pocket. Get that sized right for the guitar neck and then reduce the size of the body to be in scale at that smaller size. This should allow them to accurately route the bridge and pup and control cavities. To retain the standard J-bass 'vibe' it makes the most sense to keep it front routed with the pickguard and metal control plate. I'm sure somebody will want it rear routed for no pickguard and no plate, Sheesh!

2. The plate: Ooh, its a big deal! It really should be a mini version of the standard plate. Of course we would want options on how many pot holes we want and what type of switch we want, and chrome, black or gold...This can present a problem. If we can agree on the same setup, like the existing "3 knobs and a hole" (hehee) or "4 holes and a side jack" (haw haw haw) then we can just have...somebody...make a batch of identical custom parts. Dangerous? I'm not volunteering you ok!  :laughing7:

3. The Pickguard: The W can make 'em custom I'm sure. Each one will have to be made individually to match the bridge and pickup choices we've...chosen.

I know us Warmoth-a-holics love our options, but i hope this can become a reality.

4. The liscence: Any lawyers out there? I'm worried about the W getting permission to make a tradmarked (copyrighted, whatever) body style in a different size...will this even be an issue?

I'm not an attourney, however the recent decision handed down against Fender by the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board clearly states that they have no trademark of any kind on body styles.

Headstocks, model names (Stratocaster/Telecaster/Precision), and the brand name Fender, yes they do.

Edit:  I'm totally in on this if W can make a short run for us.  Just give me a few weeks to get my bills back in order.
