J-BASS build

I looked again and the tuner posts have a phillips screw on the back side center that plugs the hole (that I'm assuming is where the string is supposed to go).  It looks like the screw holds the gear on and I didn't remove it to find out.  Am I doing something wrong with the strings here?

Yes i think that would hold the gear on, and no your not doing something wrong with the strings, that is another valid way of installing the strings, as far as i know,
but the posting the end through the hole in the middle of the top of the tuning peg is a much tidier way of doing it.
However if anyone knows of a tuning stability reason why its better please do say, id be interested to know aswell,
I just post it through the middle hole as thats how i was told to when i started, monkey see monkey do  :toothy10:

Aye, I think the simplest answer is just repetition, lol - I think there are advantages as far as initial string tension and getting a tight wind, along with basic neatness.  Here's a vid from Elixir/Ibanez about how they, or at least this tech, change(s) strings:

I LOVE the headstock lettering, it is personal and custom; also shows pedigree and answers the question "Hey, whos guit fidle is this?" and " Who made that guitar der?"
