I've Returned to the Land of the Production Guitars

After owning only Warmoths (except my acoustic) for about 2 or 3 years now.

Just picked this up yesterday. A Washburn SB-30. I'm really liking it! It's fairly comfortable, light enough, and it was priced right. I'm a fan! Plus I've never owned a neck through guitar before. I'm honestly a pretty big bolt on fan. They just feel more solid to me, strangely. But the idea of owning a neck through definitely doesn't bother me either.

And since the LP Warmoth neck I got a while ago was GOING to go on an LPS body, I'm now thinking SG. With some nontraditional SG pickups. Still debating on that, but for now I'm just enjoying this thing!

SG needs a p90 neck and mini humbucker bridge.

That Washburn looks sick. I really like the heel area in the back photo.

If you ever need insight into the "because that's the way we've always done it!" phenomenon, consider how many millions of solidbody electric guitars were made with a big, blocky chunk of material starting at the 13th fret and going all the rest of the way up - because that's what an acoustic guitar looks like, not for material-support reasons. BONK....

Granted, many SG's and LP Junior-style guitars did have the neck fall off into their victim's hands, but that's from ANOTHER application of the "B.T.T.W.W.A.D.I." principle - using an acoustic-length trussrod on a 22-fret neck. BONK BONK BONK....

I like it. Fine piece of work. I could see me with one of those pretty easily, having a good time.

Thanks everybody! I'm really enjoying this thing. I haven't really had a guitar with humbuckers for a long time now, so thats been kind of fun. I mainly play my Tele and this is definitely a different animal.

Funny you say that :icon_biggrin: I've been thinking about getting Warmoth to route an SG for Telecaster pickups, then switching the pickups out of my Tele and into the new SG. The pickups are Rio Grande Dirty Harrys, and they're supposed to mimic a P-90. I think they do a pretty damn good job! Then I'd put more traditional Tele-style pickups into my Telecaster body. Still thinking on this one though... But I've been thinking about an SG/Telecaster hybrid for a couple years and so far I haven't done anything outrageous with my Warmoth builds. Even though Warmoth offers hundreds of possibilities.
