I've been thinking

Tonar, I think it needs a Cab style pick guard to make it look right. I kinda like the tele head, but a CBS head would give it that NOS look.

CBS heads don't look like NOS. They look like a POS. Who wants to be reminded of a Fender from that era? And who needs that much real estate on the headstock? Looks encephalitic <grin>

Can we call it "La Cabronastacaster?" Can we can we can we please please please please daddy :hello2:

What about something like this but in the colours, pickup config and hardware you want?

while i think that particular pickguard is just hideously designed, i agree that a pickguard that covers less ground than a strat guard would look cool.
Perhaps a custom pickguard is in order? I kind of imagined something that's similar to a thinline pickguard in the way it curves over and around the bridge pup.

B3, , that is the pick guard I imagined, I did not know someone had already mocked it up, it looks great and brings the strat into the Cab family

yes. and critical to the "cab-ness" is that the horn of the pickguard is de-pointy-fied, and more rounded like that of a tele. softens the strat form ever so slightly. I've also tried it with various variations of the tele control plate, LP and tele/la cab knob combinations, and all of them look pretty good, to be honest. I just chose the strat one 'cause I liked it the best.

I'm not crazy about the VTX knob layout - I ordered my pickguard that way because I thought I wanted it but it does look kinda of wierd

I'd definitely move the knobs away down southwards, but that's just me. I've owned a few "real" Strats and I always had to rewire to do away with the closest knob. Especially a real strat knob or a gnurly metal knob with the gnarly little teeth - in my months & years of Morsian speedfreakery, I would wear a raw spot on the 2nd joint of my little finger. I never have been able to do the distant anchor finger thing like Morse, Landreth etc. Re; the pckguard, I would also take it off the bottom horn - just a smooth curve towards the control cavity, kinda like a giant Les Paul pickguard or even...

Ok, I'm off to the races on this one.  I have a one-piece pine body on order for it. I ordered a single pickup La Cabronita routing on a Strat platform with a Tele neck pocket.
I'll be doing it in Shoreline Gold and it will be getting this Tele neck that I have had laying around. 5A Flame and super high grade Brazilian Rosewood.  This neck is several years old so nobody call Fish and Game, I don't want to be raided like Gibson.

Wow. That Maple is one helluva specimen. I'm surprised at the rosewood, though. Most of the Brazilian variety I've seen was much finer-grained than that, almost like Ebony or Kingwood.

It's absurd that we have to be concerned about what kind of wood in on our guitar.

That aside, I'm excited to see this Tonar! That neck looks great!
