Hey everyone,
This is my first post here and i wanted to start off by saying that this forum seem awesome.
i am totally new to building(or assembling) and have chosen to do so because of my pickiness and overall dissatifaction with the manufactured stuff available. Anyway...
Im looking at doing a jazzmaster body but with strat pickups and controls.i was thinking of 1 volume and tone control placed further from the bridge and using a 3position toggle switch in the traditional jazzmaster position
Will this work?i Dont need a 5 way switch because i never use those middle positions.
any suggestions would be welcome.

So you just want a neck/middle/bridge selection, instead of neck/neck+middle/middle/middle+bridge/bridge?
That is about as basic as guitar wiring gets. It will be done like a Tele, but with a switch wired in a SP3T fashion, with the common functioning as an output, while each throw connects to a pickup.

What type of switch did you want to use? This can be done with a DPDT On-On-On externally jumpered to a SP3T function, or with a Tele style blade switch. Gibson style toggles are traditionally DPST, externally jumpered to SPDT Center-On. I believe I have seen SP3T styles in the typical DPDT On-On-On switching pattern, which can be externally jumpered to SP3T. You will need one of those if you want to do this switching scheme. If you're using a slide style switch, to my knowledge, those are specialized 3PST switches, that can be externally jumpered to SP3T. So basically, any type of switch works.

I have a build like this planned and I already have my toggle. The guitar will be HSS but I have a Black Beauty toggle that will give me B-M/N-N.
