In the States, we do dates of birth and describing which day it is the same.  MM/DD/YY or 08/24/10.

'cept for the military where month usually land in the middle. for that reason i write the abreviation for the month instead of just numbers, like "24, aug. 2010" if it fits. but many military forms will have a light mark or a mark on the line above it that shows the format they are looking for that can look like: dd/mm/yy, dd/mm//yyyy, or yyyy/mm/dd
