Hi all!

New to the community. Just made a purchase for my first build (mahogany strat). Will be looking through the forum for all tips and suggestions --looks like a fantastic brain trust here--love the creative builds in the gallery.

Welcome to the fray!  Yep, we have a very supportive bunch here, and rigidly policed rules about what's in- and out-of-bounds for off-topic discussion, which keeps things quite civil and collegial.  We'll be glad to see what ideas you have and proffer all kinds of feedback, both helpful and the other kind.

Welcome to the community! We have a lotta fun here, and there's tons of help available from a wide variety of helpful folks with a lotta experience, many of whom have always wanted to build a start  :laughing7:

Welcome to the asylum! We're not really crazy, although sometimes I have my doubts. If you can't find the answer you need, just ask, someone here will know.  (Usually Cagey.....  :icon_jokercolor:)

Just one (at first) question:
Is the captcha and verification questions just for initial posts?

Yep, it goes away after some fixed number of posts.  Not sure how many, but it is just to keep the bots from polluting the waters.  Please stick with it, it's totally worthwhile.

Yeah, it gets tired and quits after a while. I think it's about 10 posts. Then you only have to worry about the dreaded ever-present and tireless admins, who have a whole parking garage full of heartless and heavily armed F.R.E.D.s (Forum Rules Enforcement Droids)...

You have 10 seconds to comply...

Welcome, Seamas. If you want to share or ask a question, this is the place to do it. There are some incredibly talented people here that will happily share what they know.  :icon_thumright:

OK great. I'll try to burn off the captcha posts.
It's one of the more pesky ones I have seen--I  keep screwing it up.

Just a little about myself:
I've been thinking of doing a build for years--maybe more like a decade+.

I have been lurking the Warmoth site for at least 5 years checking out the goods etc.
Funny thing is, I never even noticed the Community / forum --nice to see web forums haven't disappeared completely. I've seen many good ones go away, more than a few guitar forums got destroyed by a lack of--or very uneven moderation, so I appreciate firm forum guidelines.

I have to say I was more than a little inspired by the builds people on this site have done.
My intentions on this build was kind of modest--but since I am a graphic designer and had a education in the fine arts (BFA painting), having worked  a variety of medium (sculpture of various types, printmaking, etching, painting drawing), I have to say my creative juices were piqued from what I have seen in the galleries here. REALLY nice work. LOVE the creativity.

And while I have a reasonable amount of experience in woodworking and other crafts, I will definitely be looking for a lot of tips on process, etc.
I've never worked with Mahogany, and have never worked with lacquer.
I haven't soldered in years, but have done it (as well as brazing & welding)

So I'll be off to those sub forums for a couple of inquiries.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, those things are a pain in the shorts. Supposed to keep ne'er-do-wells out, but it's only marginally effective.

Welcome!

Love the username, Meddle by Pink Floyd has some great songs on it.

Thanks.

It's without a doubt my favorite Floyd album--and one of my desert island picks. Echoes was possibly my favorite song for many, many years.

It's my nickname in real life-- picked up when friends and I took an Irish language class years and years ago.
James = Séamas
So I have used it as a username on just about every forum I'm on.

Welcome aboard.  Since you are an artist, you will soon be obsessed with all the wonderful things you can do with wood and metal. I for one look forward to what you will soon be showing us. Enjoy, this is fun stuff and some really great people.

Nice to see you here. I just joined as well. Seems a friendly and relatively helpful spot to talk guitars and building.
