This is maybe too obvious to even be worth the bother, but:

I'd be more likely to buy into the idea if I could get tritium dots that glow no matter what. But the typical parts require that you "charge" them up with a bright light source every 8-10 minutes. Unacceptable. Plus, you have to live with light-colored dots in regular light where you don't need the glow, which isn't always a Good Thing. What if you have white/cream/ivory binding or a Maple fretboard? You need dark dots in the light, which won't glow in the dark.

tritium is radioactive , you don't really want to handle that do ya ?

Not dangerously so. The emissions are so weak they can't penetrate even the outer layer of skin. If you were to breathe in some tritium dust, you could get in trouble. But, that's true of most things.
 
I have tritium sights on two of my guns and they are fantastic, but they have a lifespan of about 10 years.  Not bad, but not great.

Plain side dots for me thanks.
