Okay, looking at these pics I guess I'm not done filling, although to the naked eye & hand it looks like its ready for clear coat. Maybe it is - I dunno. But today I found two itty bitty metal flakes. They're rather hard to photograph, but they're visible to the naked eye. I didn't use steel wool though - must've been a contaminant from sandpaper.

But they appear to be all the way at the freaking bottom.  :tard:

How do I recover this one? If I sand down in a very localized area, can I come back in and fill without the spot being visible? I've left these as attachments without inlining them because they're a bit bigger due to the nature of the photographs. (And trying to use extension tubes at f/16 really sucks when your off camera flash trigger just died and you don't want to drag out the tripod.)

You can also get an idea for the epoxy fill here.

I'll take a shot in the dark and say:

1) clean with naptha
2) use a can of compressed air

No idea if it will do the trick or not but it seems like a reasonable idea to me, and it's inexpensive and harmless if it doesn't work out.

I got it without doing too much rework. I'm learning:

Sanding is required, but sanding is like the last step. Razor blade seems to be the Go-To tool for finish work. I scraped down until I was able to get it with a sewing needle. The razor blade is also GREAT for cleaning up bumps and drips. Sanding those too soon just causing the block to dig somewhere else.

After doing a couple coats scraping with a razor blade I bought a 3.5" scraper blade at Lowes and WOW, so much better. You still need the razor for a few spots, but the wide scraper absolutely rocks.

A good strong magnet MIGHT help too, don't really know.  I do know this, I have used steel wool on a finnish, what a nightmare, never again. that stuff fragments on a microscopic scale and is a Royal Pain in the arse to clean up.

Oh sure it smoothes the finnish down, but is not worth the cleanup afterward.

Glad to hear you got it with a blade

Synthetic wool FTW!

Just FTR I was using synthetic wool only. I'm not exactly sure how it got in there, but I didn't notice it until I'd gotten two coats on. Fortunately, the Zpoxy process, no matter how many coats you use to fill, you're scraping back almost to bare wood anyway, so I didn't really do any harm. In fact when I made this posting, I was still leaving too much on.
