Ok, I'm officially one of you guys now. Not a lurker anymore, but a soon-to-be-Warmothist.
And not any Warmoth;
I've just ordered a 7/8 Strat - to my specs - and a 24" Mustang neck from the showcase.
Plus some miscellaneous hardware. Two custom pickguards for it among other things. I thought I could try it out with different pickup combinations.

Exciting, exciting.

And now the waiting begins ...

Welcome! Remember, photos (eventually), or it didn't happen.

Thank you!

And details you shall have:

I ordered a swamp ash 7/8 strat body with a contoured heel.
Universal routing so I can fit any pickups I want in it.
Hardtail, Fender American std bridge.

And it shall be transparent blue!

2 pickguards; the main one is white with a reverse angled strat pickup in the bridge and a strat pickup in the neck.
No middle pickup. Cut for an ordinary blade switch, but only one pot, the lower ("tone", but will obviously be used as a volume).
The other one is a black pickguard but for two p90s.

Like so:

The neck is this one - a roasted maple/roasted maple Mustang with SS6105 frets, Tusq Earvana nut, standard thin, 1 11/16" nut:

Oh, there will be photos. Count on it. Muahahaha!

P90's are my favorite pickups.  Ever.

Congrats on joining the addiction.  We'll look forward to your scheme coming to fruition.

Thank you all. :occasion14:

Yes, I quite like P90's as well, but I'm not to keen on having the hum from the single coil version, so I'm getting a couple of stacked ones I think.
I would very much like to find a P90-ish pickup with a blade instead of polepieces and a stacked or otherwise humcancelling construction. That would be exciting I think.

I of course am also looking forward to this. It will be a pretty simple and basic type of guitar - but perfect, I hope, for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing this come together - the waiting is the worst part, though this is close to the antithesis of the Warmoth I'm currently putting together. :occasion14:

These might be worth a try.  As side-by-side humbuckers I reckon you'll get an approximation of P90 behavior, but probably not really the whole banana.  Worthwhile to explore at the cost.

Dimarzio also does a couple flavors of 12-pole-piece pickup, and Duncan and Gibson both do some stacked specimens.  The folks with fatter wallets might go down the Fralin or Kinman route to solve the problem, but I'm a cheap bastard, and also chronically impecunious, so I'd try the GFS thing first.

Thanks Bagman. I appreciate it.
Since coming here to this forum I'm now acquainted with a lot of brands that I've never heard of before. So I actually knew of those you mentioned, but I also became interested in these:

We'll see what I end up with. There's plenty of time getting pickups. I don't really consider myself a cheap bastard  :laughing7:, but since the shipping and customs fees for the guitar and neck will set me back an additional $4-500, I might have to go with less expensive pickups to start with.

Ah, yes, I had forgotten you hail from Scandinavia, and taxation is a blood sport there.  Although from here it looks like you get at least something for the money.  And there ends my political exegesis for the day.

GFS has a lot of little hidden jewels in their product line.  I'm sure you'll find something that fits your need wonderfully.

"Blood sport"! Love it!  :toothy12:

Yes, I was really pleasantly surprised of their vast range of lovely stuff. I'm sure I will.

Nice! Welcome to the sufferings of the wait... Haha

We'll suffer together.  :occasion14:

Thanks guys.
You sure know how to make a fellow guitar player welcome in this wonderful world of Warmothians.

Those pickguards are actually really good looking, especially that white one with the reverse angled strat. Well done on your purchase!

Thanks Axkoa!

Yes, I'm quite happy with how it looks, and I'm sure it will fit my needs perfectly.
Can't wait till the guitar is all finished and I get to play it.
I'll shoot some video of it then so you all can see how it looks and what it sounds like.
Can't wait.  :icon_thumright:

Well done. On the P90s with blades. Possibly for future reference as they are pricey...

Here you go Soapbars, if the Tele pickups are anything to go by which I have they are likely to be very good.

Thanks Stratamania, that's good to know.  :icon_thumright:

Now that I see them, I think I might have stumbled upon them while roaming the interweb, and then forgot about them. The swedish distributor(?) of Joe Barden pickups don't offer them it seems. Just the Tele ones. And yes, they are quite expensive. But they do look cool.
There's another brand that seem to offer something similar, but with hidden blades/rails; Creamery Pickups:.

But what I actually was looking for was a P90-type pickup with just one blade.
I guess that would make it look a bit like a Charlie Christian pickup, but without the square edges. Plus I'd like it to be humcancelled.

I guess there are no such models. Yet ...

Wind your own 1 blade P90?  :laughing7:

Though in all seriousness. You might be able to contact a couple of pickup winderers and ask if they would be able to wind something like that for you. I'm no wiz at electronics and pickups but I'm definitely sure something like that is possible. As the saying goes, anything is possible.

That might be a solution, but knowing me, I'm not sure it's a good one.
I don't think the result would be any good.  :tard:

Plus, I'm not sure how to achieve the humcancelling of such a design.

No, I'll probably leave it to the professionals and use what's available in the meantime.
