Played one of these today at a local chain store, was very impressed. Normally I'm not a fan of LP's, but this one was pretty sweet. Price is decent too, probably made over seas, but I didn't see a tag or anything indicating where from. And I love the finish... :icon_biggrin:

$700 chocolate satin, right? But maple-capped... I was actually thinking it might be the ones that I like, which were the all-mahogany versions. There's been a lot over the years - the "Bob Marley guitar" was one - but they have a distinct, personal sound. No bite to speak of, but like a LP Junior without the P90 noise-attraction device.

I keep having to contain myself from buying this one and the chocolate SG, they're AMAZING to play and they sound great! Hard to beat the price too.

pretty sure all Gibbys are U.S. made .

Yes, all real Gibsons are made in the US.
We are under the assumption they are all made in the U.S. But who really knows for sure? :dontknow:

I agree, the price thru me for a loop.

I have one of those "limited edition special issue" Melody Makers Gibson was selling last year, and it's stamped "Made in USA". Probably the least expensive Gibson that's been sold since the '60s. If they weren't making those in Pyongyang using starving political prisoners, none of them are. But, it shows. It's the cheapest POS I've seen since the '70s.

Oddly enough, while everything about this guitar just screams "GARBAGE!!!", the fretboard is quite nice. I didn't even bother dressing it because it was close enough.

Well, America is rapidly catching up to China as far as prison farms and factories, although ours are "privatized" so as to add a layer of insulation from elected (and de-electable) politicians. I suppose if you're packing time for a third DUI or domestic violence, building guitars would while away the days.... Not too long ago a couple of judges got caught selling 10-year-old kids to prisons for $50,000 apiece. Stupid judges! I'm sure the smart ones* fare better than these clowns:

*(Smart judges, not kids....)

there's a law that ensures that if a product says 'made in the usa' it really is made in the usa :)

No s--t. Orpheo's right: if you were allowed to write 'Made in USA' on anything you want, then all guitars would say it.

haha seriously! ;) We have a saying: kinking in an open door... That's just what i did. But no seriously. Consider the possibility that Gibson put 'made in USA' on stuff that's made in another country. Or fender, or any other company. Don't you think the authorities would hang out the dirty laundry as soon as possible and fry their asses in the media and in the public domain?

Really digging this one.  :hello2:

I have thought about getting one these to cure my "Gold Top" itch. I'd have to install the EMG 81/85 set though. :occasion14:

$600 USD street...
Acceptable, for the wood your getting, And simply for the fact these have 50's profile Necks.(FATTIES ROCK!)
Parts though..... These are total makeover queens
I would buy an SGJ just to Mod the ever loving crap outta it.
Wouldn't lose a minute's sleep over it either.

Yup, I concur.

New nut, locking tuners, push/pull or push/push pots to split coils, etc...

Would make a nice recording guitar and for that reason I don't think I would change out the pickups at all.
