Honestly, you're not going to get more iconic than Eddie's red and white Frankenstrat and ZZ Top's fuzzy guitars from the Legs video. This is especially true if you're going to name "guitars that non-guitarists could recognize."

The only thing that comes close is probably Dokken's skull and bones, and that's probably just for Gen X.  Or maybe that milk guitar from those milk commercials, lol.

If you include basses, I think it's hard to top Sir Paul's (left handed) Hofner violin bass.

By far.

You got that right. Even the Koreans make them...

There are others at that site. $169, in the box, out the door. Why don't we all have one?

As much as I want SRV's Number One to be, well, #1, I think I'm gonna hafta agree with this, in light of the non-player recognition test.

While I certainly won't disparage the Beatles place in history, or even a lot of really cool songs, nor the fact that Paul is the coolest Beatle.. but strictly as instruments go....

Ewwww gross, don't touch it.

I'm glad you picked that one up... I was gonna say something like: "Because we all actually want nice things."  :laughing7:

Buncha blasphemous heathens!

That said, gimme a jazz bass any day. Or not. I'm not a bass player, and I know it. It just seems like a good idea to have a bass around the house. Never know when you might want to make the duct work rattle.

That's part of what makes it iconic - outside of tribute acts, no one else wanted to touch it.  :icon_biggrin:

A few others I thought of that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

Brian Jones' Vox Teardrop
Lindsey Buckingham's Turner Model One
whatever you call Prince's guitars  :dontknow:
